Pollution in Beijing

With the Olympics coming up, we’ve all been reading a reading a lot about the pollution in Beijing.  We’ve been seeing a lot of pictures that look like this one from my  trip last year, of the Olympic Stadium…

But the weather and pollution levels when I was there were very variable. We also had days like this…

Of course, I was there in May and this will be August, with the possibilities for inversion layers, high heat and humidity. So the question becomes…why did they schedule the Olympics for August instead of some time in Autumn (or Spring)?

Last day of the old job is tomorrow, the 13th anniversary of my first day with the company. Then I’m off to the Grand Canyon and points Southwest for some pre A-100 vacation!
